Dr. Andrea Behrman, a physical therapist and researcher specialized in pediatric neurorehabiliation, is the Director of the University of Louisville’s Kosair Charities Center for Pediatric NeuroRecovery at Frazier Rehabilitation Institute. Dr. Behrman oversees both a clinical program, as well as, a research program targeting recovery for children and adolescents with spinal cord injuries ages 1-17 years. The clinical program focuses on evidence- and recovery-based physical and occupational therapies that have been fast-tracked in translation from science to clinical practice. The research program develops and investigates new strategies to advance recovery for children with pediatric-onset spinal cord injury based on activity-based neuroplasticity and an understanding of the role of the spinal cord in controlling movement. An intimate relationship between the clinic and research makes this a unique and progressive environment with the mission to advance care and improve outcomes and the quality of life of children and caregivers through science.
